The festival is organised by the Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with Emirates Heritage Club.
The Organising Committee has allocated 730 prizes worth more than AED 11.4 million for the winners across 76 rounds of the mazayna competitions. The 17th edition of the Al Dhafra Festival has four phases of camel mazayna competitions: Sweihan, Razeen, Madinat Zayed, and the concluding Al Dhafra Festival. These phases feature a total of 361 rounds of competitions for various camel breeds, including asayel, majaheem, asayel hybrids, and wadh.
The Sweihan mazayna, which was the first phase, took place from 21 to 28 October, while the second phase, Razeen mazayna, is running from 11 to 18 November.
The third phase, Madinat Zayed mazayna, will be held from 16 to 23 December, with the concluding mazayna of the Al Dhafra Festival taking place from 20 January until 8 February 2024. This final leg features a camel beauty contest as well as a festival with various heritage competitions.
