Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Ghanadah Dhow Sailing Race 60ft, organised by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, will take place in Abu Dhabi on 4 March 2023.
Registration for the race is open until Thursday 2 March 2023.
The Organising Committee has started all technical, administrative and logistical arrangements, receiving participation requests and communicating with the competent authorities to set the race date and starting point.
The Ghanadah Dhow Sailing Race 60ft, which will start from Saadiyat Island and finish at Abu Dhabi Corniche, is the second round of this category of races. The first round, named the Sheikh Zayed Festival Dhow Sailing Race 60ft, has been already held, and featured 100 dhows with more than 2,000 sailors from across the UAE.
The dhow Al Shaqi, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, won the title in the 25-nautical-mile race.
The dhow sailing race 60ft attracts elite sailors, with valuable prizes presented to the winners.
Majid Ateeq Al Muhairi, Director of the Racing Department, Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, has praised the UAE leadership’s support for all heritage activities and events, thanking His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his generous support of the race.
Al Muhairi said: "Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club organises heritage races as part of its role in supporting efforts to preserve heritage and link the past with the present.
"The Ghanadah race is an important stage in the season, and it is part of an integrated programme implemented by Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, including activities and heritage events that promote local heritage, and convey our ancestors’ messages to this generation.”
