Organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the second edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship will begin this month, with the first round taking place from 17-19 January 2025 at Mubadala Arena, Abu Dhabi.
Registration is open until 13 January 2025, with competitions across categories for kids, youth, adults and masters.
The first edition, which spanned five rounds including two for the No-Gi category and three for the Gi category, was held in various emirates and attracted more than 10,000 participants from clubs and academies around the UAE.
The championship’s inaugural edition provided athletes with a world-class platform to showcase their abilities, hone their skills and gain experience in a competitive environment. Clubs and academies were motivated to field their best athletes, aiming to secure points, win medals and cash prizes, and be crowned champions of the first edition.
His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: "We are proud of the success of the first edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which carries a name dear to us all. This achievement was made possible by the limitless support of our leadership for sports and athletes, especially jiu-jitsu.
“The championship has succeeded in providing a platform to identify and develop talent while promoting jiu-jitsu as a sport that instils discipline, patience, resilience, courage and teamwork. We are delighted that it has inspired young generations, served as a stage for showcasing talent and reinforced the UAE’s position as a global hub for jiu-jitsu. We are confident that the second edition will build on this success driving the sport’s growth to new heights.”
“The event has also played a central role in encouraging community participation in sports, helping to build a generation that is physically and mentally strong. The large turnout of families supporting their children highlights the championship’s significance. It has evolved into a comprehensive event, combining a professional sports environment with cultural activities, sports exhibitions and entertainment for all”.
