The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched the trial operation of the Delivery Riders Hub initiative, part of its comprehensive plan to enhance the safety, security and overall comfort of delivery bike drivers in Abu Dhabi.
As part of a series of collaborative projects and initiatives in coordination with the private sector, the initiative is part of DMT's strategy to enhance the quality of life for residents throughout the emirate, further solidifying Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global destination for living, working and visiting.
The project provides a level of comfort to drivers, offering them access to specially designed shaded waiting areas with comfortable, air-conditioned seating and access to drinking water as well phone charging stations, which is particularly valuable during the summer months. Additionally, it will contribute to enhancing the visual appeal of the streets in Abu Dhabi.
In addition to establishing dedicated resting zones, the Delivery Riders Hub initiative will prioritise the safety and security of drivers. This will be achieved through the provision of motorbike parking spaces in close proximity to restaurants and cafes, as well as the resolution of issues related to violations of motorbikes parked on pedestrian pathways.
The approach not only mitigates the potential for traffic violations but also contributes to accelerating food deliveries, thereby reducing delays. These spaces can serve as valuable venues for advertising and promotional opportunities, further solidifying the city's reputation as a smart city within the region.
Hamda Abdullah Al Hashemi, Acting Director of the Urban Design Division at the Department of Municipalities and Transport said: "The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi prioritises people in all aspects of its operations and planning. We are firmly dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents in the emirate by taking their individual needs into account, and we remain committed to consistently evaluating and fulfilling those needs."
