As part of its commitment to environmental values, in alignment with national initiatives, and in support of the objectives of the Plant UAE initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, Abu Dhabi City Municipality has undertaken numerous projects to plant Ghaf trees.

This effort reflects the significance of the Ghaf tree due to its environmental and cultural value, its strong association with the UAE’s identity, its national symbolism, and its embodiment of tolerance. To date, the municipality, in collaboration with its partners, has planted 8,467 Ghaf trees across Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland.

This initiative is part of the municipality's and its partners' commitment to achieving the UAE's vision and objectives for sustainability, promoting sustainable agricultural development, reducing carbon footprints, and enhancing quality of life within sustainable cities and communities.

The municipality ensured the strategic selection of ideal locations for planting the trees, including running tracks, cycling paths, highways, greenbelt areas (forests), and various parks in Abu Dhabi.

In detail, the contributions are as follows: Abu Dhabi City Municipality Centre: 883 Ghaf trees, Zayed City Municipality Centre: 673 Ghaf trees, Shahama Municipality Centre: 4,480 Ghaf trees, Al Wathba Municipality Centre: 1,380 Ghaf trees, Mussafah Municipality Centre: 1,051 Ghaf trees. These efforts bring the total number of Ghaf trees planted this year to 8,467.

To ensure the success of these environmental initiatives, the municipality provided extensive logistical support. This included preparing planting sites, installing irrigation networks, digging for tree planting, supplying labour and equipment for planting and soil transport, actively participating in planting, and conducting continuous follow-up and maintenance after planting.
