The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has announced that the emirate achieved an over 51% success rate in IVF procedures, ranking among the highest globally, with 695 childbirths delivered through IVF at specialised healthcare facilities in the emirate in 2024.

This achievement reflects DoH’s commitment to providing community members with high-quality healthcare services, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a leading global healthcare destination.

According to the World Health Organization, one in six adults are affected by infertility, impacting 17.5% of the global adult population. Assisted reproductive treatment (ART) technologies offer hope and potential for those on their path to parenthood. The emirate consistently worked to address global fertility challenges, developing robust regulations and policies that ensure access to high-quality ART services in line with international standards and best practices.

Dr Fayeza Alyafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at DoH, said: “A significant portion of the global population faces fertility challenges, requiring urgent action from healthcare systems around the world. Abu Dhabi’s remarkable success rates in IVF procedures highlight the emirate’s steadfast commitment to evolving our approach to reproductive health.

“Abu Dhabi has made significant strides in enhancing assisted reproductive medical services, becoming a destination for those seeking to obtain similar services from across the region. At the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, we aim to foster resilience and innovation to drive ART efforts forward, enabling us to improve patient outcomes and build a healthcare system that is proactive, adaptive, and resilient.”

Abu Dhabi is home to 14 licensed healthcare facilities providing assisted reproductive services, including the opening of two new facilities in 2024, as well as 45 maternal and delivery facilities.  More than 2,800 healthcare professionals deliver comprehensive obstetrics and gynaecology services, including 700 specialists and consultants, as well as 375 midwives.

Additionally, expertise extends to Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), reproductive medicine and infertility, anaesthesiology, critical care, and radiology as well as sonography, embryology, and assisted reproductive technologies.  DoH continues to work closely with stakeholders across the sector to enhance services as well as advance investment in research, innovation and talent to meet the needs of all community members.
