The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has been granted intellectual property protection by the UAE Ministry of Economy as a smart application for its innovative environmental inspection system Eltezam.
Since the launch of Eltezam in October 2022, EAD has intensified environmental inspection visits across industrial and commercial sectors, and development projects. The agency has conducted more than 2,000 inspection visits, resulting in an overall compliance of more than 88 per cent across Abu Dhabi. These outcomes highlight the effectiveness of the system in inspection and compliance monitoring operations.
Eltezam has been instrumental in investigating and assessing the environmental impact of 125 environmental complaints and incidents.
Eltezam is the first-of-its-kind in the Middle East for environmental inspection and monitoring. It aims to conduct more efficient inspection operations to monitor environmental violations, ensuring the protection of the environment, society, optimal resource allocation, and saving time and effort. The system provides flexibility for EAD inspectors in environmental assessment for industrial, commercial facilities and development projects, based on actual operational activities and environmental requirements.
Engineer Faisal Al Hammadi, Executive Director of the Environmental Quality Sector at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, said: "The move confirms its (Eltezam’s) importance as a smart and effective system, enabling inspectors to monitor a total of 93 permitted sectors, 38 industrial operations, and report 277 violation statements linked to the applicable legal citation."
Eltezam enhances efficiency of the inspection and compliance process by strategically targeting sectors and facilities and employing data-driven analysis to pinpoint non-compliant areas. This focused approach maximises the impact of inspection activities in safeguarding the environment and public health while ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and environmental permit conditions.
The system optimises resource allocation by applying lean production principles to reduce inspection time and increases efficiency by classifying violations within the operational processes related to different sectors, supports decision-making based on data analysis, tracks key performance indicators and identifies common violations and patterns of non-compliance.
