His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, has extended his gratitude and appreciation to the leadership of the UAE for the continuous support and vision, which has led to achieving a new milestone with the commercial operation of the fourth unit of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. This enhances the leading role of the UAE in the global journey towards clean energy transition and achieving Net Zero by 2050.
His Highness said that the achievement marks a qualitative leap in the UAE's journey to become a global hub for clean energy. The four units of the Barakah Plant generate up to a quarter of the UAE's electricity needs with zero carbon emissions.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, said: "The commercial operations of Unit 4 of the Barakah Plant comes amidst the global nuclear energy renaissance, following the growing international recognition of the need for more efforts to tackle the climate change. This was clearly demonstrated by the consensus of around 24 countries during the COP 28 hosted by the UAE last year, to work towards tripling nuclear energy capacity by 2050. The Barakah Plant plays a pivotal role in securing energy self-sufficiency in the UAE, enhancing the distinguished and diversified energy mix. The Plant is supporting the economic growth and job creation, while leading the biggest efforts to accelerate the decarbonisation in the UAE. Within an unprecedented schedule, The Barakah Plant has become, a regional and global source of inspiration, especially for those seeking to launch new peaceful nuclear energy programs, to drive economic growth, welfare prosperity, through ensuring energy security and climate solutions."
His Highness praised the Emirati distinguished talents who worked alongside global expertise, to achieve the significant accomplishment. This highlighted the immense potentials and extensive experiences of the UAE in developing mega projects, while adhering to the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.
