In line with supporting the transportation services system in Abu Dhabi, ADQ has taken over the management, operation and development of the Abu Dhabi toll system DARB and the Abu Dhabi parking system Mawaqif, under the regulatory supervision of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility).

Under this mandate, ADQ will manage the DARB and Mawaqif systems, ensuring continuity of quality services for customers. Additionally, DARB and Mawaqif will leverage from ADQ’s transport and logistics portfolio to support the evolution of a smart, safe and sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi.

The operations of DARB and Mawaqif will not be affected by the transition to ADQ. Through their respective digital channels, the two systems will continue to provide the full range of high-quality services to customers, while regulatory supervision roles will remain under Abu Dhabi Mobility.

DARB, operational since 2021, manages eight toll gates in Abu Dhabi, which are situated at the primary bridges across the city. The toll gate system alleviates congestion while promoting the use of public transportation. The business was established to execute Abu Dhabi Government’s objective to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s standing as a globally competitive city through provision of world-leading smart mobility infrastructure.

Complementing the development of a holistic transportation ecosystem, Mawaqif was established in 2009 to provide motorists with structured public parking facilities in Abu Dhabi. The Mawaqif system is fully digitalised, offering mobile phone payment as well as integration in the DARB smart application.

His Excellency Abdulla Al Marzouqi, Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, said: "This step is part of our strategy to enhance partnerships with leading companies, improve the transportation system and develop the sector in Abu Dhabi. ITC will also work with ADQ to boost customer experience and ensure continuity of services."

Mansour AlMulla, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer of ADQ, said: "By expanding our portfolio with DARB and Mawaqif, we expect to generate significant synergies that will translate into sustainable financial returns, as well as an attractive proposition for commuters. As state-of-the-art systems solving urban mobility challenges, DARB and Mawaqif facilitate the seamless movement of people and goods. This ideally complements our existing assets in the transport and logistics sector, while contributing to the evolution of a smart, safe and sustainable transport network in Abu Dhabi."

By bringing together assets from across the entire value chain, ADQ aims to develop cluster ecosystems and support the growth of portfolio companies by harnessing their strengths and creating long-term value. This has allowed ADQ to make increasing contributions to the diversification of Abu Dhabi’s economy, while enhancing the quality of people’s lives through the reliable and efficient delivery of daily essentials such as power, water, transport, food and healthcare.
