Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) the first edition of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week will be launched on Sunday and will run until November 25 at (ADNEC).
ADAFSW will feature a series of co-located events, related to agricultural and food sustainability affairs, as well as food safety, including the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Conference, the Agrithon Competition involving university students, the award ceremony for the Best Honey Contest sponsored by Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), and Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qassimi Award beekeeping and honey production.
The week hosts VIV MEA, an exhibition which covers animal health and production, which focuses on developing livestock and producing dairy, poultry and eggs, and hosts a number of experts, academics and researchers who present various scientific papers discussing agriculture and food issues, where more than 100 local and international speakers speak during the week's events.
"Despite the wide variety of events of the week, all of them focused on the concept of agricultural sustainability and the aspirations of the food security that all countries of the world aspire to," said Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, the spokesperson of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority.
“On the latest technological developments that will support the sustainability of the agricultural sector and strengthen the food security system as well as provide a platform for those concerned to see the global developments in the field of agriculture in both plant and animal fields, in addition to poultry farming, and honeybees, which has a particular importance within the activities of the week, He added
Dr. Al Hammadi explained that events address important topics such as vertical farming, hydroponics, indoor agriculture, aquaculture, and agriculture in controlled environments, as the pioneers of these fields in the world showcase the latest innovations and solutions needed for sustainable food production that are being addressed the main challenges of the agriculture sector in the region where required modernizing agriculture systems and meeting water, soil and climate challenges, as well as requirements to increase productivity and improve the quality of agricultural and animal production to meet food security challenges.
Al Hammadi invited those concerned with agriculture and livestock farming in the UAE and the region to visit the week and attend lectures and awareness workshops looking for solutions to many of the challenges facing the agriculture sector in addition to seeing the latest findings of agriculture technology, livestock development, poultry farming and honeybees.
Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week is supported by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, as well as the support and sponsorship of the Energy Department- Abu Dhabi, The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), and some reputed local companies like Etisalat, Silal, Elite Agro, National Feed Company and Etihad Airways, along with the media sponsorship of Emirates News Agency WAM.
