The Walk 1000 initiative has reached a significant milestone as participants celebrate completing 500 kilometres—halfway through their 1,000-kilometre challenge.

With over 625,000 steps taken, more than 90 hours of walking logged, and upwards of 120 litres of water consumed per participant, the journey continues to motivate the community to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles.

The initiative, launched on 2 November 2024, is a 30-day challenge featuring ten dedicated participants championing the mission of Active Abu Dhabi, a programme powered by the Emirates Foundation and PureHealth, and sponsored by Mubadala. Together, they aim to promote the significance of fitness and wellbeing in the community, encouraging the public to embrace physical activity as part of their daily routine.

Their route weaves through over 30 historical, cultural, and environmental landmarks across Abu Dhabi, including sites like the Baynunah Houbara Reserve and Al Sadeem Observatory, showcasing the emirate's dedication to preserving its rich heritage while fostering health and wellness.

This weekend, Active Abu Dhabi invites the wider community to walk alongside the Walk 1000 participants for a portion of their inspiring journey. The public event will take place on 24 November 2024 at 7:00am at Mbazzarah Al Khadra in Al Ain. Registration is now open, offering an incredible opportunity to experience this historic challenge firsthand.

Beyond the community event, the public is also encouraged to join virtually through the Pura app, where participants can commit to taking 6,000 steps daily. The initiative emphasises the transformative impact of just 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week on overall health and wellbeing.
