The Emirates Foundation, through its Sanid Program, successfully concluded the Sanid Civil Protection and Safety Initiative, held during the holy month of Ramadan. Designed to enhance community preparedness for emergency response, the initiative engaged 341 volunteers from 22 nationalities across community councils and centres in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah. Over six intensive two-day training sessions, participants accumulated a total of 2,046 training hours, reinforcing their ability to respond effectively to crises.

The initiative focused on equipping participants with essential skills in first aid, home safety, firefighting, and disaster response, enhancing their ability to react swiftly and effectively to crises. The training was conducted by certified experts from the Sanid Program, alongside specialised trainers from its volunteer network.

The training courses conducted as part of the Sanid Civil Protection and Safety Initiative covered essential topics designed to equip participants with the skills needed to handle emergencies and disasters effectively.

The first three courses covered: Volunteer Ethics and Guidelines – Emphasising the role of volunteering in crisis response efforts and how to operate efficiently within emergency volunteer teams; Disaster Preparedness and Response – Training participants on how to anticipate, prepare for, and manage both natural and human-made disasters safely and effectively; Leadership and Incident Management – Providing insights into leading emergency operations, coordinating response efforts, and delegating tasks during critical situations.

The final three courses covered: Basic First Aid – Offering hands-on training in life-saving techniques, including emergency response for burns, wounds, and other medical incidents; Safe Injury Transport Techniques – Teaching proper methods for carrying and assisting injured individuals without exacerbating their conditions during rescue efforts; and Firefighting and Emergency Fire Response – Training participants in fire suppression techniques, handling flammable materials, and effectively using alarm systems during fire emergencies.

Building on the success of the initiative, the Emirates Foundation remains committed to developing new training programmes within the Sanid framework. The foundation’s efforts aim to expand the reach of beneficiaries and ensure the sustainability of training in security and safety. Additional initiatives designed to further enhance community preparedness for emergency response are planned throughout 2025.
